FSU International Film Series to Present "The Specialist"
10/04/2002

Frostburg State University's Fall 2002 International Film Series continues with "The Specialist" on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. in the Lane University Center's Atkinson Room 201. This series is sponsored by Center Stage and the Department of Student & Community Involvement.

"The Specialist" documents the 1961 trial of the notorious war criminal Adolf Eichmann in Jerusalem that shows, for the first time, a higher ├ęchelon SS officer talking about his "work." From 1941 until 1945, he was responsible for deporting Jews to concentration camps, a task that he describes in a manner that is oppressively bureaucratic and precise. The contrast between the monstrosity in Eichman's crimes and the mediocrity of the accused in itself results in a frightening portrait of a commonplace person, but with unlimited powers.

This documentary by Israeli filmmaker Eyal Sivan is based on videotapes filmed by blacklisted filmmaker Leo Hurwitz, who was hired by the Israeli government and ABC News to record the trial.

This film, which runs for about two hours, is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For information, contact the Lane University Center Information Desk at (301) 687- 4411. FSU is committed to making all of its programs, services and activities accessible to persons with disabilities.
