Frostburg State University Department of Performing Arts-Music will present Kristin Bacchiocchi-Stewart and Michael Zell performing a joint flute/marimba recital on at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, in the FSU Performing Arts Center’s Pealer Recital Hall. The performance is free and open to the public.
Bacchiocchi-Stewart is the flute instructor at FSU. She also teaches woodwind methods classes and directs the flute ensemble. Bacchiocchi-Stewart was a prizewinner at the 2002 National Flute Association’s Young Artist Competition, a winner of the 2000 NFA Masterclass Performers Competition, a participant in the First Beijing Nicolet International Flute Competition and has appeared as a semi-finalist in the Myrna Brown and Ducrest Young Artist Competitions.
Bacchiocchi-Stewart is also a dedicated chamber musician. She has participated in the Aspen Music Festival, the Colorado College Music Festival, and Zurich 2000 Masterclass series.
Michael Zell’s broad skills as a percussionist include solo percussion, timpani, chamber music, orchestral percussion and theatrical percussion. Currently, Zell serves as the Principal Timpanist of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra. As a freelance percussionist, Michael performs regularly throughout Maryland, having performed with the Maryland Symphony and the Baltimore Sinfonietta. Zell has performed in summer festivals in Aspen, where he received the Charles Owen Memorial Scholarship, and Norfolk, Conn., as part of the Yale School of Music Summer Program.
