The panel discussion, “The Road to Obama: Celebrating African American Leadership,” will be held on Tuesday, April 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Manicur Assembly Hall of the Lane University Center at Frostburg State University.
The panel discussion, sponsored by the FSU J. Glenn Beall Institute for Public Affairs, the African American Studies program, the Leadership Studies program, the Diversity Center and the Black Student Alliance, will feature historians of regional and national African American leadership and public servants who will help attendees understand the historical context and importance of public service in our nation and local communities.
Guest panelist include Pansye Atkinson, former director of Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity at FSU and an FSU alumna; Daryl Boffman, president/CEO and founder of Acela Technologies Inc. and Frederick County’s first African American countywide elected official; Al Feldstein, Allegany County historian and author; Baltimore Assistant Deputy Mayor Antonio Hayes, also an alumnus; Taft Terry, executive director of the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of African American History in Baltimore; and Dr. Dwayne Williams, historian and founder of A.B.L.E. The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Kara Rogers Thomas, professor of Sociology and Folklore at FSU.
The event will also include a networking opportunity before and after the program. The discussion is free and open to the public.
