FSU Presents V-Day Events, Including Presentation of "The Vagina Monologues"
02/07/2003

Frostburg State University will present a variety of events to mark V-Day, a global movement that helps anti-violence organizations throughout the world continue and expand their core work while drawing public attention to the larger fight to stop worldwide violence against women and girls. The theme this year is "From V-Day to V-World: Envisioning a World Without Violence."

On Wednesday, Feb. 26, and Thursday, Feb. 27, there will be an information festival at 7 p.m. and a benefit performance of "The Vagina Monologues" each evening at 8 p. m. in the Performing Arts Center Pealer Recital Hall. Hailed by The New York Times as "funny" and "poignant" and by the Daily News as "intelligent" and "courageous," "The Vagina Monologues" dives into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage and excitement buried in women's experiences. Based on interviews with a diverse group of hundreds of women - from a Long Island antiques dealer to a Bosnian refugee - "The Vagina Monologues" brazenly explores questions often pondered, but seldom asked.

Tickets cost $5 for students and $10 for non-students. Call (301) 687-7462 for reservations. Donations are requested from those attending to help fulfill the "wish lists" of our V-DAY beneficiaries, Family Crisis Resource Center and Dove Center. Wish Lists can be obtained by contacting Nicole Mattis at (301) 687-3212 or nmattis@frostburg.edu. Those who bring donations to the performances can be entered in a raffle.

Other V-Day events include an Art and Poetry Open-Mic Night on Monday, Feb. 17, from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. in the Lane University Center Loft, sponsored by Center Stage; The Clothesline Project on Tuesday, Feb. 18, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and Monday, Feb. 24, from 6:30-9 p.m., in Manicur Assembly Hall; a meeting of the Philosophy Club to discuss "Female Genital Mutilation" on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 6:30 p.m.; and a "Take Back the Night March" Friday, Feb. 28.

For additional information please call Mattis at (301) 687-3212. FSU is committed to making all of its programs, services and activities accessible to persons with disabilities. To request accommodations through the ADA Compliance Office, call (301) 687-4102, TDD (301) 687-7955.
