FSU Professor DeVee Dixon to Perform Faculty Piano Recital
Dr. Joan DeVee Dixon, a professor at Frostburg State University, will present a Faculty Piano Recital on Sunday, April 11, at 3 p.m. in the FSU Performing Arts Center Pealer Recital Hall. The program will be in the form of a lecture recital, “American Spring: The Legacy of Antonín Dvorák.” Musical selections will include piano music by Dvorák and his teacher Antonin Liehmann.

Dixon is a featured soloist for the International Dvorák Society's American Spring Festival, who has performed up to 20 concerts throughout the Czech Republic each summer. She will discuss the mission of American Spring Festival and how the music of Dvorák continues to impact composers, performers and audiences in both the United States and the Czech Republic.

As a pianist and organist, she tours the globe, and has preformed in such locations as Westminster Abbey, Westminster Cathedral and the Temple Church in London, Town Hall and Christ Church Cathedral in Oxford, the American Cathedral in Paris, St. Mark’s Cathedral in Venice, St. Andrew’s Cathedral in Tokyo, the Bethlehem Peace Center in Palestine, and the Kennedy Center and Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.

Dixon is chair of the Department of Music at FSU and a recipient of FSU’s Academic Achievement Award. She is a five-time winner of the Individual Artist Award from the Maryland State Arts Council, author of the bio-bibliography of American composer George Rochberg (Pendragon Press), and has collaborated with American composer Dr. Emma Lou Diemer in over 100 world premiere performances. Dixon has recorded 11 CDs, which are regularly aired on classical music stations and broadcasts such as “Pipedreams.”
