10/12/2010

Mark Gallagher, a professor at Frostburg State University, will present a Faculty Clarinet Recital on Sunday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center. Gallagher will be accompanied by Robert Frankenberry on piano and Pamela Murchison playing the flute. The recital is free and open to the public.

Gallagher, an Oberlin Conservatory of Music graduate, will perform works by Bach, Debussy, Schubert, Hindemith and Lutoslawski. He is a winner of the Artist International Competition in New York City, awarded with a solo recital in Weill Hall. Gallagher studied with Lawrence McDonald, Dr. Linda Bartley, Robert Marcellus and Alfred Zezter over the years, and performed with the Contemporary Music Forum of Washington, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra and New York City Ballet Orchestra, to name a few.

He made his New York recital debut performing with violinist Sylvia Rosenberg at the Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall. Gallagher is an active chamber musician and co-founder of I Venti Semplice, and has toured throughout the United States and Europe. In addition to his busy performance schedule, Gallagher is an active clinician, lecturing on occupational health issues for musicians and the Alexander Technique.
