Frostburg State University Department of Social Work Fall 2006 graduates have successfully completed the Social Work program by completing internships at regional social work agencies, according to Dr. Terry Russell, chair of the FSU Department of Social Work.
Michelle Printy of Cumberland (Family Crisis Resource Center), Karen Starkley of Keyser, W.Va. (Burlington Children’s Residential Center), Taryn Arnold of Cumberland (Department of Social Services), Crystal Whetsel of Keyser, W.Va. (Burlington Family Center), Robin Brooks of Washington, D.C. (Pressley Ridge of Western Maryland), Susan Miller of Meyersdale, Pa. (Family Services Salisbury, Pa.), and Amanda Warner of Rockville, Md. (Potomac Highlands Guild in Parkersburg, WV) have successfully completed their internships. The internship and seminar are the final classes taken to earn the degree of Bachelor of Science in Social Work.
The field internship is a Department of Social Work capstone experience in which students put into practice the skills they have learned and developed throughout their academic careers. To complete the internship, students must demonstrate the capacity to work independently in the social work profession. Students worked with professionals on a daily basis, successfully serving in a professional capacity.
The FSU Bachelor’s Program in Social Work is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. It prepares students for entry-level professional social work. Graduates will work in positions in various social service organizations and are eligible to apply for advanced standing in any Master of Social Work program, depending on their GPA and other factors.
