FSU to Hold Third Event in “Sustaining Campus and Community” Dialogue Series
04/23/2012

Building on an increasingly cooperative spirit in Frostburg, Frostburg State University will hold the last of its “Sustaining Campus and Community” Dialogue Series for the semester on Wednesday, May 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lyric Theater, 20 E. Main St., in Frostburg.

The discussion will focus on developing goals, plans and constructive approaches for building community, resolving conflicts and preventing violence. Dr. Marvin Johnson, founder and executive director for the Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Dr. Frank Dukes, lecturer and director of the Institute for Environmental Negotiation at the University of Virginia, will facilitate the event. Representatives from all campus and community organizations are sought to contribute to solutions and planning for next year, when Frostburg celebrates its bicentennial.

The series is part of a continuing set of initiatives designed to help students and the community learn more about conflict management and violence prevention. The series is made possible through generous support from the Mediation and Conflict Resolution Office in Maryland and with the assistance of FSU partners, including the Office of the President, Office of Human Resources, Diversity Center, Residence Life Office, Department of Communication Studies, Department of Philosophy and the Student Communication Studies Association. Community partner Mountainside Community Mediation Center will also offer support and services.

Community members are encouraged to come out to discuss long-term planning of solutions and hear about funding possibilities to sustain these efforts. For more information, contact Dr. Elesha L. Ruminski at elruminski@frostburg.edu or 301-687-4480.

FSU is committed to making all of its programs, services and activities accessible to persons with disabilities. To request accommodations through the ADA Compliance Office, call 301-687-4102 or use a Voice Relay Operator at 1-800-735-2258. -end-
