FSU to Present Flute, Viola and Piano Recital as Part of Faculty/Guest Artist Series
04/06/2011

Frostburg State University Department of Music will present an hour of music with the flute, viola and piano as part of its Faculty/Guest Artist Series. FSU faculty flutist Pamela Murchison, West Virginia Symphony Orchestra violist Anne Hamilton and Fairmont State University pianist John Morrison will perform in a program of 20th-century music. The recital will take place on Sunday, April 17, at 7 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU’s Performing Arts Center. The performance is free and open to the public.

The trio will open with the inviting and entertaining “Concertino” by Ernest Bloch. They will next take you on a trip to the Smoky Mountains, the inspiration for Howard Buss’ “Tennessee Suite,” told in four picturesque movements: “Mystic Dawn,” Treetop Capers,” “Cades Cove” and “The Trail to Abrams Falls.” Murchison and Hamilton will then perform the charming British work “Duo for Flute and Viola,” and the recital will close with a taste of French music with the tonal and expressive “Prélude, Récitatif et Variations, opus 3” by Maurice Duruflé.
