FSU Winter Choral Concert to be Dec. 2
11/19/2001

The Winter Choral Concert of the Frostburg State University Department of Music, featuring the Collegium Musicum and the University Chorale, will be Sunday, Dec. 2, at 3 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center's Pealer Recital Hall.

Under the direction of Dr. Karen Soderberg and accompanied by Kimberly Andrews (piano), the University Chorale will feature Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's "Magnificat." Soloists include music majors Autumn Monahan-Avilla (soprano), Emily Fishell (alto), David Myers (tenor) and Brian Kosior (baritone). The University Chorale will also perform three Chanukah selections: "Mi y'maleil" arranged by Bob Chilcott, "Mi Zeh Y' maleil," with Michael Hale-Cooper (tenor) and Ilana Fardjad (soprano) and "Candle Blessings for Chanukah," arranged by Joshua Jacobson with Heather Helmstetter (soprano).

Senior Samantha Stewart will conduct Daniel Gawthrop's "Sing Me To Heaven." Dr. Susan Mills, assistant professor of music, will direct two South African songs, "Phamokate" and "Kwangena Thi Na."

Collegium Musicum's performance will include "O Magnum Mysterium" by Tomas Luis de Victoria; Edvard Grieg's "Ave Maris Stella; Betelehemu" (a Nigerian carol) arranged by Barrington Brooks. Collegium will also perform Emma Lou Diemer's "Madrigals Three" and "Agnus Dei."

The concert will conclude with "Chanflin," (Dominican Republic) arranged by Juan-Tony Guzman and George Shearing's "Blow, Blow, Thou Winter Wind," "My Funny Valentine" arranged by Teena Chinn and "How High the Moon" arranged by Stephen Zegree.
