FSU’s Center for Creative Writing Hosting Reading by Poet Irene McKinney
Frostburg State University’s Center for Creative Writing will host a reading by poet Irene McKinney on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 7:30 p.m. at Frostburg’s Lyric Theater at 22 E. Main St. The reading is free and open to the public.

McKinney was appointed poet laureate of West Virginia in 1994 and is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Poetry and two West Virginia Commission on the Arts Fellowships in Poetry. She is the author of five books of poetry, with the most recent being “Unthinkable: Selected Poems” released in 2009. McKinney has been writer-in-residence at Western Washington University, the University of New Mexico, University of California and Hamilton College. She was most recently appointed Thornton Writer-in-Residence at Lynchburg College for 2010. Her poems have been featured five times on Garrison Keillor’s “Writer’s Almanac” and on “Verse Daily.” McKinney does an occasional commentary on National Public Radio and now is a professor emerita at West Virginia Wesleyan College.
