As part of its Spring Author Series, the Frostburg State University Children's Literature Centre will present Laura Krauss Melmed on Thursday, April 3, at 7 p.m.
This presentation, which is free and open to the public, will be at City Place, located at 14 Water Street in Frostburg.
Melmod wrote her first picture book, "The First Song Ever Sung," as a poem to answer a bedtime question from her son. The best-selling titles "I Love You As Much" and "The Rainbabies" soon followed. Her awards include an ALA Notable Award and Notable Trade Book Award in the Field of Social Studies for "Little Oh," a Parent's Choice Award for "Prince Nautilus" and "A Hug Goes Around," the National Jewish Book Award for "Moishe's Miracle" and the Graphics Prize, Bologna Book Fair and Association of Booksellers for Children Award for "The Rainbabies." Her most recent title is "Capital! Washington D.C. from A to Z," a rhyming, fact-filled alphabetical tour through her adopted hometown.
A native of New York City, Melmed received a B.A. from SUNY Buffalo and an M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education from Tulane University. She serves as president of the Children's Book Guild of Washington, D.C.
