FSU’s Department of Music Presents a Performance by Its Percussion Ensemble
11/18/2011

The Frostburg State University Department of Music presents a concert by the FSU Percussion Ensemble on Thursday, Dec. 1, at 8 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU’s Performing Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public.

The popular FSU Percussion Ensemble, directed by Dr. Ronald Horner, performs a variety of compositional styles, including avant-garde, popular transcriptions and novelty works.

The concert will include Kit Mills’ “Three European Folksongs,” in which three performers will play on one five-octave marimba, and Jim Casella’s “Cop Drama,” an homage to the retro sounds of classic American TV cop shows. Vibes, marimbas, bells, chimes, cymbals and more come together for “Starship Groove” by Wayne Lytle and the reggae-styled “Pachelbel Island” arranged by Michel and Damm. There’s also a taste of the holidays in “Sleigh Ride,” arranged for percussion ensemble by Thomas Brown, and “Coventry Storm” by Edward Witt, an arrangement based on the classic “Coventry Carol.”

The members of the Percussion Ensemble are Katherine Campanile, Travis Cohen, Matthew Green, Greg Jaeger, Amanda Kiser, Mark Mattingly, Michael Murphy, Robert Nemoff, Crystal Nwabuko, Robert O’Neal, Carl Thatcher and Rashad Williams.
