Free educational programming from the Annenberg/CPB Channel is now available to members of the Frostburg community, thanks to a new alliance between FSU TV3, Frostburg State University and Annenberg/CPB in Washington, D.C.
FSU TV3 will feature three new series:
“Democracy in America,” a 15-part series of half-hour videos, is a course for high school civics teachers that covers topics of civic knowledge, skills and dispositions recommended by the Civics Framework for the National Assessment of Educational Progress and developed by the U.S. Department of Education.
“Earth Revealed” is a 26-part series of half-hour video programs on geology for college and high school classrooms and adult learners. Programs in this series show the physical processes and human activities that shape our planet. From earthquakes and volcanoes to the creation of sea-floor crusts and shifting river courses, this show offers stunning visuals that explain plate tectonics and other geologic concepts and principles. This series can also be used as a resource for teacher professional development.
“Exploring the World of Music” is a 12-part series of half-hour video programs on the elements of music for college and high school classrooms and adult learners. Through rare archival footage and contemporary performances, “Exploring the World of Music” presents themes such as music and the environment, music as cultural memory and how technology changes music. Featured artists perform music from around the world, including American jazz, gospel and rock, and traditional music from Bosnia, the Caribbean, India, Ireland, Japan and West Africa.
For these new programs, tune in on Mondays for “Democracy in America” at 4 and 7 p.m. and “Earth Revealed” at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m.; on Wednesdays for “Democracy in America” at 5 and 8 p.m.; and on Fridays for “Exploring the World of Music” at 5 and 8 p.m.
The nationally distributed Annenberg/CPB Channel features renowned Annenberg/CPB educational series in all areas of the high school and college curriculum. Annenberg/CPB, a partnership between the Annenberg Foundation and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, uses media and telecommunications to advance teaching in American schools with the Annenberg/CPB funds educational series and teacher professional development workshops for the Annenberg/CPB Channel. The Channel is distributed free by satellite to schools and to other educational and community organizations nationwide.
