Getz Named AMCC Player of the Week
10/16/2002

FROSTBURG, MD - Sophomore Kirsten Getz (Beall/Frostburg, Md.) was named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference player of the week for her play during the week of October 7 – 14, 2002. During the week she was able to extend her personal winning streak to a total of four matches, which currently it is at five with a victory yesterday against La Roche.

At number one singles this season she has also continued her unbeaten streak in conference play. Last season as a freshman, Getz was able to go 13-0 at number two singles, of which she went 8-0 in AMCC play on her way to winning the number two singles championship.

She didn’t drop a match until after the tournament when the Bobcats faced Division II Shepherd and she lost her match, this time at number one singles. Kirsten began the season this year at the number one position and has continued to find success.

She began the year dropping her first two matches at a tournament as she faced IUP and Alfred University. Following the tournament she won seven of her last eight matches and all five of her AMCC matches. Going undefeated in AMCC play for the second straight year she is now 13-0 in conference play and 20-4 overall as a sophomore in her career at FSU.

Getz will be ranked number one going into the conference tournament again this season as she looks to become the first FSU tennis player to win both number two and number one singles AMCC championships, and the second to win back to back AMCC championships (Jennifer Knieriem ’97–’98; #5 singles - #3 singles).
