GIBSONIA, Pa. —
Senior infielder Mike Gitzen (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls)
and freshman pitcher Aaron Main (Brunswick, Md./Brunswick)
swept the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference weekly awards after being named the league’s Player and Pitcher of the Week, Monday.
Gitzen had a monster week for FSU as it posted a 4-0 record, earned a share of the AMCC regular-season title and captured two wins over Pitt-Greensburg in the opening round of the AMCC Tournament. He was 8-for-15 for a .533 batting average during the week. He also collected 10 RBIs in 15 at bats, a double and two homeruns. In the opening round matchup against UPG, Gitzen hit a grand slam to help FSU to a 13-8 game-two win.
Main picked up two of the four Frostburg State wins last week including a 4-3 eight-inning win in a best-of-three series over Pitt-Greensburg. He is now a perfect 5-0 against the AMCC and a league best 8-2 overall on the season. In his two wins last week, Main struckout nine in 13.1 innings while lowering his earned run average to 2.79.
FSU is 27-13 overall and captured at least a share of the AMCC regular-season title for the third-straight season. The Bobcats look to reach the 30-win plateau for the first time since 2003 when they travel to the 2007 AMCC Tournament Final Four this weekend, May 11-13, hosted by La Roche.
