STATE COLLEGE, PA
— The Frostburg State golf team shot a 309 to finish third out of eight teams at the ECAC South Region Qualifier and earn a spot in the ECAC Division III Championships October 2nd and 3rd.
Sophomore Ian Umphrey (Prince Frederick, Md./Calvert) won a three-man playoff with a birdie on the first hole to win medalist honors with a 72.
Freshman Sean Buenger (Westminster, Md./Westminster) tied with Umphrey with a 72 but finished third after shooting a bogey on the second playoff hole losing to Brian Deljedal of Pitt-Bradford.
Sophomore Joe Eaton (Baltimore, Md./Pikesville) shot an 81, senior Wayne Hardesty (Baltimore, Md./Hereford) shot an 84 and senior Matt Dicks (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) shot a 94.
Keystone College won the qualifier shooting a 304 and fellow Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Penn State Behrend shot a 308 to also qualify.
The Bobcats return to action next Saturday at the ECAC Division III Championships at Ravenswood Golf Course in Rochester, N.Y.
