The Frostburg State golf team closed out its season with a sixth-place finish at the Eastern College Athletic Conference South Region Championship held Monday at the Wildwood Golf Club.
The Bobcats shot 342 in the first round and 343 in the second to finish with a 685, edging Lake Erie, which shot 686.
Keystone won the region title with a 643, followed by Grove City (646), Penn State Behrend (666), Pitt-Bradford (671) and Penn State Altoona (673). Alvernia (690), La Roche (707) and Pitt-Greensburg (708) rounded out the 10-team field.
Sophomore Joe Eaton (Baltimore, Md./Pikesville) led FSU with a 12th-place finish at 164, shooting 81 in the first round and 82 in the second. Junior Ian Umphrey (Huntingtown, Md./Calvert) fired a first-round 87 and followed with an 82 to finish 19th at 169.
Junior James Avampato (Havre De Grace, Md./Aberdeen (Lees-McRae)) took 32nd with a 175 (88-87) and freshman Brent Walker (Frostburg, Md./Beall) was 46th with a 195 (104-91).
Freshman Ian Estabrook (Kensington, Md./Einstein), the runner-up at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship October 9, shot a first-round 86 but was forced to withdraw after the first hole of the second round due to injury.
