Griswold, Filipowitcz Lead Field Hockey to 2-0 Win Over St. Vincent
FROSTBURG, Md. –
Senior Amanda Griswold (Rockville, Md./Magruder)
scored the game-winning goal in the first half and freshman Kelly Filipowicz (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach)
added an insurance goal in the second as Frostburg State gained a 2-0 field hockey win over St. Vincent, Tuesday afternoon.
Griswold dribbled a ball toward the St. Vincent net and fired a shot past keeper Jaqueline Novak to give the Bobcats (3-6) a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute of the first half.
FSU would go on to register six more shots in the first half and outshoot SVC (2-3) 11-0 in the opening period.
Filipowicz added the insurance goal in the 45th minute when she scored her third goal of the fall season.
The Bobcats outshot the Bearcats 7-3 in the second half and 18-3 for the game.
Junior goalkeeper Amanda Runion (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) faced three shots, making one save, all in the second half while Novak allowed two goals and made nine saves.
The Bobcats are back in action on Sunday, September 24 at St. Mary’s at Noon.
