Jeff Billington Named Head Women's Volleyball Coach
07/25/2001

Frostburg, Md. ... Frostburg State University Athletic Director Ralph Brewer announced today that Jeff Billington has been named head coach of the women's volleyball program. Billington, a 1984 graduate of FSU, brings over 10 years of coaching experience at the collegiate, high school and club levels to the Bobcats.

"We're very excited to have Jeff," said Brewer. "With his ties to FSU, his knowledge of our recruiting area and his outstanding record, I know he will do well."

"I feel it's an honor and a privilege to come back to my alma mater and head up a volleyball program with such established excellence," said Billington, who inherits a program that has won four straight Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference titles and has advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament the past two years. "I hope to continue the tradition the volleyball program has built here at Frostburg State."

Billington comes to Frostburg from Paul VI High School in Fairfax, Va., where he guided the girl’s varsity program to a 73-21 mark in four years, including a current 52-match winning streak that spans the past two seasons. He led Paul VI a 25-0 record in 1999, a 27-0 mark in 2000 and back-to-back Washington Catholic Athletic Conference and Virginia Independent School Volleyball Association state titles. Paul VI finished last season ranked No. 3 in the Washington Metro Area poll.

For his efforts, Billington was named VISVA and Washington Post All-Met Coach of the Year in 1999 as well as VISVA Coach of the Year in 2000.

In addition to Paul VI, Billington has served as the assistant coach for the George Mason University men’s volleyball team (1998) and the Marymount University women’s volleyball team (1995-96). He also coached the Asics Metro Junior Olympic Girl’s 16 team in 1999 and 2000.

Billington taught health and physical education at Longfellow Middle School in Falls Church, Va., from 1999-2001, and was a physical education/health instructor and coach at W.T. Woodson High School in Fairfax, Va., from 1993-1999.

Billington is no stranger to Frostburg State, having earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from FSU in 1984 and his master’s degree in human performance in 1993. While a graduate student, he taught classes in the Health and Physical Education and Recreation department, coached the Bobcat men’s club volleyball team for three seasons and also served as an instructor at FSU volleyball camps.

Billington is a certified CAP Level I and II Volleyball Coach and has held American Red Cross CPR Instructor A, B and C certifications since 1994.
