- Frostburg State rallied for a comeback, but Juniata was able to hold off the Bobcats and win a nonconference matchup 5-4, Wednesday afternoon.
Senior Chris Schoenbauer (Riva, Md./South River) took the first set 6-3 from Aaron Rhodes in No. 5 singles, but Rhodes countered, winning 6-2, 6-4, securing the win for the Eagles.
Juniata took a 2-1 lead after doubles competition, with the Bobcats lone victory coming from the tandem of junior Ryan Rice (Hampton, Va./Shape American) and senior Andy Chisholm (Pylesville, Md./North Harford). The two took down Rhodes and Casey Chew 9-8 in No. 2 doubles.
FSU claimed victories in the first three singles matches, with wins from sophmore Greg Shedd (Middletown, Md./Middletown) (6-7, 6-1, 6-2), A. Chisholm (6-1, 6-0), and junior Matt Chisholm (La Plata, Md./La Plata)(6-4, 7-6).
The Bobcats relinquished the 4-2 lead they held going into No. 4 singles as Rice, Schoenbauer, and freshman Ronald Collins (Temple Hills, Md./Frederick Douglas) dropped their matches, evenutally losing to the Eagles 5-4.
Frostburg State returns to action April 6 when it travels to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Greensburg at noon.
