- For the second straight week, junior forward Karen Kotofski (Northeast/Glen Burnie, Md.)
and senior goalkeeper Stephanie Zych (Guilderland/Slingerlands, N.Y.)
were named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively.
Kotofski and Zych (pictured) were instrumental in the Bobcats (13-3, 6-0) two victories this week that extended their FSU record nine-game winning streak, topping the seven wins in a row FSU recorded in 2001.
Kotofski scored five times last week and had an assist on the only other goal scored by the Bobcats. On October 30th, Kotofski, who scored both goals in a 2-0 victory against Bethany College (W.Va.), raised her career total to 120 points, surpassing Amy Foote’s record of 118 points set in 2001. Earlier this season, Kotofski also broke Amy Foote’s scoring record of 49 career goals.
On November 1st, Kotofski led the Bobcats with three goals and an assist in a 4-1 victory over Penn State Behrend, which secured FSU the AMCC regular season championship and a number one seeding in the upcoming conference tournament.
She leads the conference with 1.19 goals per game and ranks second with 2.63 points per game, which currently would rank her nationally in the top 30 in both categories.
Kotofski now has a team-high 19 goals on the season, two shy of her single-season record of 21 that she set in 2001. She also leads the team with 42 points, which improves her recently set FSU career records to 57 goals and 127 points.
Zych, who has been in goal for the Bobcats school record nine wins in a row, has allowed just two goals over the 472 minutes played. Against fellow AMCC unbeaten Penn State Behrend, she allowed a goal midway through the second half that ended a streak of 297 minutes with surrendering a goal. On the afternoon, Zych made 11 saves in guiding the Bobcats to a perfect 6-0 record in AMCC play.
For Zych, this week’s performance improves her FSU career records to 45 wins, 415 saves and 19 shutouts. This is Zych’s third Goalkeeper of the Week award this season and her seventh of her career. Also, this is the fourth time that both Zych and Kotofski were named AMCC Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week in the same week.
As the regular season champions, FSU will host their upcoming AMCC tournament semifinal match against La Roche on Tuesday, November 4th at 2:00 p.m. and with a victory the AMCC tournament finals on Friday, November 7th at 2:00 p.m.
