Kotofski Sets New FSU Career Record in Goals Scored as a Junior
10/08/2003

Frostburg, MD — Junior Karen Kotofski (Northeast/Glen Burnie, Md.) recently became Frostburg State's women's soccer leading career goal-scorer as she netted her 49th career goal in a 4-2 win over La Roche College on October 7th. Kotofski, who was named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Pre-Season Player of the Year, scored her 49 career goals in only 49 career games.

Against Villa Julie on October 3rd, Kotofski scored the game-winning goal giving her 48 career goals to tie her with Amy Foote. Foote, who played from 1998-2001, also holds the career record in points with 118 in her four years.

Kotofski, who has been named AMCC player of the week three times in her career, has scored an incredible 25 goals against AMCC opponents including four hat-tricks in 17 games. For her efforts, Kotofski has been named to the AMCC first team twice and was recognized nationally in 2002 being named to the second team of the Verizon/CoSida All-Academic District II team and to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America adidas Great Lakes Region All-America Soccer Team.

As a freshman, Kotofski broke the FSU single-season records for goals scored and points as she netted 21 goals and had 49 points to top both of Danielle Pickar's marks (20 goals, 46 points) set back in 1996. In 2002, Kotofski missed the first six games of the season due to injury, but returned to score a goal in her first game back and eight goals in her first three games. She ended the season with 17 goals in 17 games and recorded 36 points.

Currently, Kotofski has picked up were she left off as she has 11 goals and 24 points in 10 games to bring her career totals to 49 goals and 109 points, only nine points behind Foote's record of 118 career points. Kotofski has recorded six career hat-tricks and 14 career multi-goal games and also has an impressive 1.00 goals per game and a 2.22 points per game averages.

If Kotofski can continue to keep up her current pace she should finish her career with 80 goals and 178 points recorded. Kotofski and the Bobcats will return to action this weekend to face Lake Erie College. Frostburg State has dominated the Storm the past two seasons, outscoring Lake Erie 19-0 led by Kotofski's team-high four goals and nine points.
