WINCHESTER, VA —
Sophomore Carly Rihard (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll)
netted career-high five goals to lead Frostburg State to a 15-9 win over host Shenandoah in women’s lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon.
The Hornets (4-7) opened the scoring at 25:23 to take their only lead of the game. The Bobcats (3-4) returned with three consecutive goals, from junior Tina Trent (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright), Rihard, and classmate Maria Schrum (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake), to take a 3-1 lead.
SU scored just one goal before FSU extended its lead on two goals from sophomore Lindsay Lamont (Sykesville, Md./Century) and one each from senior Ann Long (New Market, Md./Linganore) and freshman Meredith Martin (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson) to control the game 7-2 at intermission.
The second half started off much like the first with an early goal from Shenandoah. Back-to-back goals from Ritz put the Bobcats ahead 9-5 with 24:14 remaining in the game. Four minutes later, the Hornets narrowed the gap, 10-7.
FSU used a surge of five goals, including four from Rihard and one from Schrum to seal the victory.
Freshman Bobcat keeper Erin Morrell (Easton, Md./Easton) picked up 15 saves in the win.
The Bobcats return to action on Saturday April 1, as they travel to Salisbury at noon.
