FROSTBURG, MD —
Freshman Diana Rocklein scored four goals to lead Scranton to a 11-7 victory over host Frostburg State in women’s lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Field.
Junior Ashley Mattison (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) opened the game with a goal for the Bobcats (5-6) at 26:35. The Royals (8-3) found the new twice to take a 2-1 lead. FSU regained the lead with back-to-back goals from senior Stefanie Ritz (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) and sophomore Lindsay Lamont (Sykesville, Md./Century) with 11:55 on the game clock.
Scranton netted two more goals to have a 4-3 advantage at the break.
In the second half, freshman Danielle Merson (Fallston, Md./Fallston) banked a shot off a pass from sophomore Carly Rihard (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) to tie the game at 4-4. The Royals scored four consecutive shots, including three from Rocklein, to take a commanding lead.
Ritz scored again at the 17:21 mark to come within 8-5. Sophomore Maria Schrum (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) netted the ball off a feed from junior Tina Trent (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) to narrow the gap 8-6.
Scranton scored three consecutive goals to seal the win. Lamont capped the scoring with a goal at 3:25.
Freshman Bobcat keeper Erin Morrell (Easton, Md./Easton) picked up 17 saves in the loss, earning her eleventh double-digit performance of the season.
FSU returns to action on Tuesday April 18, as it hosts Villa Julie for a game beginning at 4:30.
