Lacrosse Falls to Greensboro in Season Opener

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Frostburg State women’s lacrosse lost to Greensboro 15-12 in its season opener Saturday afternoon.

FSU falls to 0-1 while GC improves to 3-1.

Junior Maria Schrum (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) led the way for the Bobcats offensively with two goals and four assists while senior Ashley Mattison (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and freshman Elisabeth Hildebrand (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) each chipped in with two goals and one assist.

The Pride were led by Christie Hebert with four goals and one assist followed by Jenna Gast with three goals and two assists.

Hildebrand gave FSU the early 1-0 lead with her first career goal just over two and half minutes into action. One minute later, GC scored to even the game at 1-1, but FSU netted back-to-back shots for a 3-1 lead.

Greensboro answered by scoring five out of the next six goals to pull ahead 6-4. After FSU narrowed the score to 6-5 on a goal from senior Carly Rihard (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll), but Greensboro would again surge ahead by scoring four out of the final five goals of the half for a 10-6 lead at intermission.

Frostburg State came out firing in the second period, scoring four goals while limiting GC to just one goal over the first 15 minutes of the half. Senior Brittany Brumby (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard), junior Lindsay Lamont (Sykesville, Md./Century), Mattison and Schrum all scored for the Bobcats during the streak to help bring the count to 11-10 in favor of the hosts.

The teams would exchange a pair of goals and Hebert capped the scoring with the final goal with just 3:43 to play.

Senior Rachel Lewis (Laurel, Md./Wilde Lake) got the start in net for the Bobcat, suffering the loss after allowing 15 goals and making 11 saves.

FSU returns to action tomorrow at 11:00 am when it takes on Guilford.
