BALTIMORE, Md. –
The Frostburg State women’s lacrosse team allowed the first 11 goals of the game and couldn’t pull off a comeback as it fell to Notre Dame 15-8, Wednesday afternoon.
FSU (4-6) fough back in the second outpacing CMB (10-1) 7-1, but the Bobcats couldn’t overcome the first-half deicit (14-1).
The Gators raced out to an 11-0 lead over the opening 20 minutes of play behind four goals from Anne Shippen and three scores from Lauren Terry. Shippen led all players with six goals and an assist while Terry recorded three scores.
Bobcat senior Ann Long (New Market, Md./Linganore) got the visitors on the board with 8:47 to play in the opening half with her 17th goal of the season.
However, that was all of the offense for FSU in the first half as CND scored the final three goals of the period for a 14-1 lead at the break.
Frostburg State opened the second half with energy scoring back-to-back goals from sophomore
Meredith Martin (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson) and senior Tina Trent (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright).
Notre Dame scored its final goal of the game at 25:26 and Frostburg State scored the final five goals of the game to end the scoring. Junior Carly Rihard (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) and freshman Elisabeth Hildebrand (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) each recorded a pair of goals during the final outburst for the Bobcats.
Senior netminder Rachel Lewis (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) made six saves giving up 15 goals while earning the loss.
The Gators outshot the Bobcats 26-15 for the game including a 23-4 edge in the opening period.
Frostburg State returns to action on Saturday, April 21 when it travels to the College of New Jersey at 4:00 pm.
