FROSTBURG, MD -
Frostburg State Lacrosse had its hands full Saturday, losing to second-ranked NCAA Division III The College of New Jersey, 18-4. Sophomore Kelley Duncan (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright)
scored three for the Red and Black, but it was not enough to hold the bold Lion offense led by Carin Heller and Lauren Dougher, who each had four tallies on the day.
The Lions (9-0) jumped out to a commanding 7-0 lead, including three from Dougher and two from Katie Wagenblast. The Bobcats (8-4) added their first tally when Duncan scored the first of her three goals at 19:45.
The College of New Jersey led 10-1 at the half.
Bridget Bailey opened second-half scoring for the Lions with a tally, but was answered at 35:46 when Duncan found the net for her second goal.
TCNJ added four more within a seven-minute period, including two from Heller.
FSU tacked-on two more when Duncan netted her third goal at 44:40 and Junior Page Macey (Linthicum, Md./North County) found her only goal of the day at 45:45.
The Lions, who outshot the Bobcats 37-11 on the day, added three more to clinch the victory.
Senior goalie Sarah Shockley (Fallston, Md./Fallston) had 14 saves on the afternoon and freshman Tina Trent (C. Milton Wright/Bel Air, Md.), sophomore Stefanie Ritz (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) and juniors Caitlin Howley (Damascus, Md./Damascus) and Macey combined for 25 groundballs.
Frostburg State returns to action Saturday, April 24 when it hosts Villa Julie at 1:00 p.m.
