Lacrosse Whips Wittenberg for Seventh Straight Win

FROSTBURG, MD — Frostburg State defeated visiting Wittenberg University Sunday morning 13-5. The Bobcats were led by offensive leader junior Page Macey's (Linthicum/Linthicum, Md.) five goals en route to dropping the Tigers.

The Bobcats (7-0) got on the board quickly with three-straight goals. Freshman Brittany Brumby (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) found the net at 2:29 off an assist from sophomore Kate Nicol (Glenelg/Mt. Airy, Md.).

Just over a minute later, Macey tallied the first of her five goals off an assist by sophomore Stefanie Ritz (C. Milton Wright/Bel Air, Md.). At 6:33, sophomore Kelley Duncan (C. Milton Wright/Bel Air, Md.) put one on the board, notching the Red and Black to 3-0.

Wittenberg (0-4) tallied its first goal at 12:46 when Melissa Jackson scored off an assist from Erin Kelly.

Macey was quick to reply with two more goals. The first at 15:54, and the second at 18:24 off an assist from Ritz.

Wittenberg answered with a goal by Kelly less than a minute later and then scored two quick goals by Rachel Ridgeway and Michelle Hanners.

At 22:40, Ritz tallied her lone goal off an assist from Macey and then Macey found the net again at 23:34 off a free-position shot.

Hanners scored again for the Tigers at 27:31 off an assist from Kelly, but Macey would cap scoring for the half with a tally with just over one-minute to play.

Junior Caitlin Howley (Damascus/Damascus, Md.) opened second-stanza action with back-to-back tallies. Her first at 31:40 off a free position shot followed by a score at 32:14 off an assist from Brumby.

Sophomore Tara Blake (Arundel/Crofton, Md.) found the net at 34:10 off a Macey assist and then freshman Ashley Mattison (Chesepeake/Pasadena, Md.) tallied a goal at 45:01 off an assist from Duncan.

Duncan capped Red and Black scoring with her second goal at 53:05 off an assist from Ritz.

The Bobcats were not scored upon in the second-half as senior Sarah Shockley (Fallston/Fallston, Md.) took the win with 14 saves on the day. The Bobcats led in groundballs, 44-40.

Frostburg State returns to action Saturday, April 3 when it faces host Salisbury University at noon.
