ALTOONA, Pa. – Junior Amanda LaPorta (Westminster, Md./Westminster) scored a game-high 27 points as the Frostburg State women’s basketball team defeated Penn State Altoona 70-68, Wednesday evening at Adler Gym.

The Lions were led by Brittany Poorman with 16 points followed by Kirstin Twardon with 14 and Erin McGowan with 13.

Both teams made 24 baskets while FSU attempted 65 shots to PSA’s 59. The Bobcats were held without a three pointer for just the second time this season, but converted 22-of-36 (61.1%) foul shots to make up the difference.

FSU out rebounded the hosts 52-36 and turned 18 offensive rebounds into 16 second-chance points. Frostburg State also scored 25 points off of 23 Lion turnovers.

LaPorta opened the game for FSU with a jumper at 17:55 and the visitors used the next three minutes to take a 10-3 lead. Just past the midway point of the first half, Penn State Altoona narrowed the gap to just two points, 15-13.

LaPorta hit a free throw at 6:13 to extend the FSU lead to five, 26-21, but PSA outscored the Bobcats 13-7 over rest of the half to carry a 34-33 lead into the break.

LaPorta opened second half action with a jumper at 18:56 to regain the lead for Frostburg State, 35-34. The Lions rebounded to take their largest lead of the game, 54-48, with just 8:53 to play but the Bobcats put together a 9-0 spurt to grab a 59-54 advantage at 6:47.

Penn State Altoona briefly retook the lead, 60-59 at 4:22, but Hargrove made a pair of free throws with just under three minutes left in the game to give Frostburg State the lead for good.
