OSHKOSH, Wisc. -
Sophomore Brian Leiter (New Windsor, Md./Francis Scott Key)
finished eighth in heat one of the preliminaries in the 800-meter run at the 2007 NCAA Track & Field Championships, Friday.
Leiter finished the race in 1:53.65 but did not qualify for the finals on Saturday.
Sophomore Jimmy O'Brien of Ohio Northern posted the event's fastest time (1:50.74) and earned the top spot in the finals.
"Getting to run in his first national championship was a good learning experience for Brian," said Head Coach Randy Lowe. "Being able to have this experience as a sophomore was particularly valuable as he can apply what he has learned in the upcoming years."
Leiter is the first Bobcat male track and field athlete to compete at the NCAA Championships since Dante Myles, Michael Taye and Karold Gray in 2001.
