Frostburg State junior Dave Lightner (Cherry Tree, Pa./Purchase Line)
has been named the Atlantic Central Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against regional powerhouse Montclair State on Saturday.
Lightner, a 5-foot-10, 210-pound linebacker, made a career-high 11 tackles, including seven solo stops, in FSU's 30-27 loss to the Red Hawks. He also recovered a fumble in the game.
Salisbury senior running back Tony Ellis was named the ACFC Offensive Player of the Week after rushing 15 times for 181 years and two touchdowns to power the Sea Gulls to a 45-20 win over Methodist. Salisbury improved to 3-0 for the first time since 1986.
Apprentice freshman linebacker John Schley earned ACFC Rookie of the Week honors after making 10 tackles, including two for a loss and one sack, in the Builders' 20-14 victory against Averett. Schley returned a 25-yard interception for a touchdown and also stopped a fourth-down fake punt inside Averett’s 20-yard line.
Frostburg State returns to action on Saturday when it hosts SUNY Brockport at Bobcat Stadium at 1:00 pm.
