Local Experts Examine Intelligent Design, Science Debate
Dr. Richard Raesly, professor of biology at Frostburg State University, and Rev. Bill Pinches, pastor of the Frostburg Presbyterian Church, will explore the controversial subject “Science, Religion & Intelligent Design” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, in the FSU Compton Science Center, room 226.
The program is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by United Campus Ministry.
Raesly has taught biology at FSU since 1989. His research interests and areas of expertise include ecology and evolution of introduced species, evolution and systematics of freshwater fish, biology of endangered species and stream ecology. Raesly’s research has been funded by several granting agencies, such as the Environmental Protection Agency, National Park Service, The Nature Conservancy, Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Soviet Academy of Sciences and National Geographic Society. His work has also been published in many peer-reviewed journals, including “Transactions of the American Fisheries Society,” “American Midland Naturalist” and others. Raesly received his B.S. in biology from Albright College, Master of Wildlife Biology from FSU and Ph.D. in Ecology from Penn State University.
Pinches has been pastor of the Frostburg Presbyterian Church for three years and is chair of the Committee on Preparation for the Ministry of Baltimore Presbytery. He also serves as a member of the FSU United Campus Ministry Board of Directors. He received his B.A. in religion from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine and both his Master of Divinity and Master of Theology from Princeton Theological Seminary.
