Loggie Leads Volleyball to Sweep of Pitt-Greensburg
10/02/2001

FROSTBURG, MD — Junior Marjorie Loggie (Gaithersburg, Md./Watkins Mill) recorded a career-high 12 kills and freshman Stacey Langham (Barton, Md./Westmar) added a personal-best nine kills to lead Frostburg State to a 30-26, 30-21, 30-16 sweep of visiting Pitt-Greensburg in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match Tuesday night at Bobcat Arena.

Frostburg State, which won for the fourth time in its last six matches, improved to 8-8 overall and 3-3 in the AMCC. All four wins have been by 3-0 scores.

Meanwhile, Pitt-Greensburg lost its eighth straight to fall to 4-9 overall and 0-4 in league action.

The first half of the opening game was a close battle before FSU built a seemingly comfortable 21-14 lead. However, Pitt-Greensburg scored three straight and nine of the next 12 points to cut the lead to one, 25-24.

After the teams exchanged points, freshman Jen Vance (Mt. Savage, Md./Fort Hill) sparked a 3-0 spurt with a cross-court kill, and FSU went on to the 30-26 win.

Pitt-Greensburg held an 8-6 edge in game two before Frostburg State rallied behind five consecutive service winners from Loggie. UPG then pulled even at 11 with three straight points, but the hosts used an 8-2 run to open a 21-16 lead and never looked back.

Game three followed a similar flow as the first two contests, with FSU breaking away from an early 8-6 advantage with several short runs. Pitt-Greensburg closed to 15-11, but Frostburg State freshman Lauren Petrick (Denton, Md./North Caroline) served four straight winners as part of a 10-2 surge.

The hosts then scored seven of the next 10 points to clinch the match.

Junior Stacy Bureau (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) added a team-high 11 digs, while freshman Carrie Ness (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) posted 32 assists.

Frostburg State will look to move over the .500 mark for the first time this season when it competes in the Gallaudet Tournament Friday and Saturday.
