TUCSON, AZ —
The Frostburg State University baseball program is looking forward to its chance to improve on last year's 25-16 record, and the task should be made easier with the help of sophomore infielder Sean Davis (Olney, Md./Sherwood)
and junior catcher Jake Mannon (Southampton, N.J./Lenape)
. The pair has been named among the Players to Watch in Division III by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper
The smooth-fielding Davis will start at either second or third base, providing versatility and allowing the coaches to play him where needed. He is also a threat at the plate, because he handles the bat very well and gives coaches many options when he steps in the batter's box.
Davis enjoyed a strong collegiate debut season, earning All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference honorable mention honors. He played in 40 games with 38 starts and tied for third on the team with 39 hits, ranked fourth with 24 RBI and finished fifth with a .310 batting average.
Mannon is a strong-armed catcher with one of the top bats on the club. He is coming off a breakthrough sophomore season in which he hit .346 with seven doubles, five home runs and 33 RBIs, while striking out only eight times in 107 at-bats.
He displayed his offensive impact early last season when he belted two home runs and drove in a career-high six runs against the University of Chicago on March 20th in Florida.
"I'm very happy for both Jake and Sean," said FSU head coach Chris McKnight, who guided the Bobcats to a berth in the ECAC South Region Championship last year. "They both had outstanding seasons last spring, and I'm looking forward to both of them continuing their strong play this year."
