March CES Productions at FSU to Include Three Irish Tenors and Philadanco!
02/27/2002

Escape the late winter doldrums at Frostburg State University when Philadanco! and Three Irish Tenors come to campus in March as part of FSU's Cultural Events Series.

The pioneering dance company, Philadanco!, otherwise known as The Philadelphia Dance Company, will appear on Saturday, March 16 and Sunday, March 17 in the Performing Arts Center's Drama Theatre. Saturday's performance is set for 8 p.m., while Sunday's performance is a matinee at 2 p.m.

Known for its adventurous style that fuses ballet, modern and ethnic dance influences, Philadanco! emphasizes innovative works by American choreographers in dramatic programs. According to Dance Magazine, "Philadanco's dancers are a miracle of skill and energy.... [They] can represent the possibilities of human spirit through dance."

This company from the City of Brotherly Love has performed at many world-renowned venues including Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, Jacob's Pillow and Madison Square Garden. Other performances include collaborations with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Louis Bellson Orchestra and the Duke Ellington Orchestra.

Ticket prices are $15 for the general public and $8 for under 17. Discounted tickets are available for FSU staff and students.

This performance is partially supported by a grant from the Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour, a program developed and funded by the Vira I. Heinz Endowment; the William Penn Foundation; the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency, and the Pew Charitable Trusts; and administered by the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation. This tour is also supported by a grant from the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts Regional Touring Program.

Returning to campus after their sold-out Christmas in Dublin show in fall, 2000, the Three Irish Tenors will perform two shows, set for 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 18 and Tuesday, March 19, in the Performing Arts Center's Pealer Recital Hall.

Ciaran Nagle of "Riverdance" fame, Anthony Norton from La Scala Milan and Tom Cregan from Royal Covent Garden will share the stage with soprano Jacqueline Whelan, accompanying herself on Irish harp, along with seannachi (storyteller) Jimmy Kennedy and a host of Irish dancers and musicians.

Come celebrate St. Patrick's Day with traditional favorites like "Danny Boy," "Galway Bay" and "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling, " along with the delicate sounds of the harp, tall tales and lively Irish reels, jigs and step dance.

Ticket prices are $15 for the general public and $8 for under 17. Discounted tickets are available for FSU staff and students.
