Frostburg State University student Joy Marsiglia will present her junior mezzo-soprano vocal recital, accompanied by pianist Judith Brown, on Sunday, March 11, at 7 p.m. in Pealer Recital Hall of FSU’s Performing Arts Center. The recital is free and open to the public.
Marsiglia will perform Shubert’s “Der Tod und Das Madchen” (“Death and the Maiden”), where Schubert depicts a young maiden frightened as Death approaches to take her, but Death informs her that he is a friend and that she should not fear him. She will sing a set of works from noted folk music composer John Jacob Niles. Her program also includes pieces by Giovanni Bonocini, Antonio Caldara, Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel, Edward Kilenyi, Enrique Granados, Mozart and Jerry Bock. She will close out the recital with two duets, “Il Core Vi Dono” from Mozart’s “Cosi Fan Tutte” and “Do You Love Me” from “Fiddler on the Roof,” with guest artist David Kincaid, who sings bass.
A major in FSU’s Department of Music, Marsiglia studies voice with Dr. William Koehler. She is a member of University Chorale as well as the Chamber Choir. She has been listed on the Dean’s List since she began attending FSU and has been awarded the Talent in the Arts scholarship as well as the Academic Distinction Scholarship. She is a member of Sigma Alpha Iota Women’s Music Fraternity. A homeschooled student, Marsiglia is a 2008 graduate through Conowingo-Rising Sun Christian Academy and expects to graduate from FSU in May 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Music Management. She is the daughter of Paul and Dawn Marsiglia of Baltimore. Marsiglia plans to pursue advanced degrees in law and music history with the goal of working as a music copyright lawyer.
