Frostburg State freshman Ashley Martin (Manchester, Md./North Carroll)
was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Softball Player of the Week Monday.
Martin sparked FSU to a 12-3 win over Pitt-Greensburg last Wednesday with a 3-for-3 performance. She doubled, scored three times and drove in two runs in the non-conference victory.
Martin, a catcher/third baseman, raised her average to .444 on the season. She leads the Bobcats with two home runs, 12 RBI and an impressive .944 slugging percentage, and she ranks second on the squad with three doubles.
"Ashley has enjoyed an outstanding start to the year," said FSU head coach Chris Starke. "Five of her eight hits have gone for extra bases, and she's quickly established herself as our top power hitter."
The Bobcats (3-2) are ranked first in the AMCC in team batting average (.366), fielding percentage (.943) and scoring (8.6 runs per game) in this week's league statistics.
