FROSTBURG, MD —
Frostburg State freshman catcher Ashley Martin (Manchester, Md./North Carroll)
continued to add to her collection of awards on Thursday, as she was named to the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Atlantic Region third team.
Earlier this month, Martin earned first-team All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference honors as well as the AMCC Newcomer of the Year award.
She is just the second Bobcat softball player to take home NFCA All-Region accolades, joining Krissy Jackson, who was voted to the NFCA All-Atlantic Region first team last season.
Martin enjoyed one of the best offensive seasons in school history. She led the Bobcats with a .400 batting average, 12 doubles, four home runs and set a single-season school record with 35 RBI, surpassing Jackie Chaney's former mark of 33 set in 1999.
She tied for the team lead with 32 hits and two triples, and her 18 extra-base hits is the third-highest single-season total in program history.
"Ashley had a tremendous year for us," said first-year head coach Chris Starke. "She played a key part in our success, and I'm looking forward to her being one of our cornerstones in the coming years as we aim to win a conference championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament."
Frostburg State posted a 13-12 overall record and a 7-5 mark in the AMCC this year, an improvement over its 8-15-1 finish in 2002.
