Memorial Vigil Scheduled in Memory of Evan Kullberg and Alyssa Salazar on Sunday, Dec. 6, at 6 p.m.

Frostburg State University’s Student Government Association and Greek Council have organized a memorial vigil in memory of Evan Kullberg and Alyssa Salazar on Sunday, Dec. 5, at 6 p.m. in the Cordts Physical Education Center Main Arena. The FSU campus community is welcome to attend.

Once again, please reach out if you need someone to talk to. Call the Counseling Center at 301-687-4234, Father Ed Hendricks at 301-689-5041 or the Rev. Cindy Zirlott at 301-687-7490. It will be important at this tragic time to come together to comfort one another. (Update 4:35 p.m. 12-3-10)

Speaking at the vigil will be SGA President Ian Spears, Greek Council President Steve Weatherholt, FSU President Jonathan Gibralter, Assistant Director of Student Activities Jamie Winters, representatives from Kappa Tau Epsilon and Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and Father Ed Hendricks.

Music will be provided by the FSU Chamber Choir, United Voices Under Gods Dominion and members of the Sigma Alpha Iota music fraternity.

Statement from Frostburg State University President Jonathan Gibralter regarding the early-morning fire that killed two FSU students:

“The Frostburg State University community is heartbroken by this tragic loss of two of our precious students. We send our deepest condolences to the loved ones of Evan Kullberg and Alyssa Salazar, and we ask everyone to keep them in their thoughts and prayers.”

UPDATE from President Gibralter (11:25 a.m. 12-3-10): I am now able to report that Alyssa Salazar and Evan Kullberg were the two students who perished in this morning’s fire. All of our thoughts and prayers go out to their families, who have been notified of this tragic event.

This is a particularly difficult time to absorb the impact of such a painful loss as we are otherwise focused on the tasks that face us this close to the end of the semester and year. It will be important that we take the time to reflect on this loss and its impact on our community and on Evan and Alyssa’s loved ones. We will keep the campus community informed of any arrangements that are forthcoming.

Message from President Gibralter (10:10 a.m. 12-3-10): I am terribly saddened to inform you that that two of our students perished in an early morning fire on Main Street in Frostburg.

We are awaiting confirmation of the identities of the two victims and to ensure that their families have been notified. In the meantime, please keep their families and friends in your thoughts and prayers. Please reach out if you need someone to talk to.
