SALISBURY, MD — The Frostburg State men's and women's cross country teams both finished fourth at the Mason-Dixon Conference Championships Saturday at Winterplace Park.
Junior Inga Olsen (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) led the women's team, finishing eighth out of 43 runners to earn All-Conference honors for the third straight year. She posted a season-best time of 20:05.
Sophomore Beth Sauder (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) also took home All-Conference accolades after placing 14th in 21:02, improving on her 29th-place showing last season.
Sophomore Katy Eads (West Point, Iowa/Central Lee) was 22nd overall in a personal-best 21:35, while sophomore Julie Hoffman (Parkton, Md./Parkton) finished 27th in 22:32, trimming 1:38 of her best time this season.
Junior Serena Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Mergenthaler) placed 42nd in 33:32.
The Bobcat women scored 107 points, finishing behind champion Christopher Newport (37), Catholic (40) and Salisbury (59). Gallaudet was fifth (140) and Methodist placed sixth (155).
CNU captured the top three spots, led by individual champion Aimee Gibbs, who posted a time of 18:22.
On the men's side, Frostburg State scored 98 points to finish behind winner Christopher Newport (21), Salisbury (51) and Catholic (73). Methodist was fifth with 140 points, while Gallaudet did not record a team score as it competed with three runners.
Freshman Kevin Ripple (Mechanicsville, Md./Leonardtown) led the Bobcats with a 15th-place finish, earning All-Conference honors. His time of 28:03 was a personal record by 31 seconds.
Fellow freshman Sy Farris (Fort Ashby, W.Va./Frankfort) was 21st in 28:58, and freshman John Densmore (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) followed with a 24th-place showing in 29:13, besting his previous top finish by 53 seconds.
Junior Mike Replogle (Union Bridge, Md./Francis Scott Key) finished 27th in 29:32, and freshman Ron Lipscomb (Loncaconing, Md./Northern Garrett) rounded out the FSU scoring, placing 29th in 29:35.
Sophomore Brian Gallagher (Burke, Va./East Lake Hall (Fla.)) was 32nd in 30:12, freshman Justin Marshall (Gaithersburg, Md./Watkins Mill) was 33rd in 30:20, sophomore Tim Watson (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) was 36th in 31:28 and freshman Matt Price (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) was 37th in 31:49.
"Both teams made big improvements in their focus and competitiveness," said head coach Randy Lowe. "I feel both squads have a shot at winning Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championships next week."
The Bobcats return to action in the AMCC Championships to be held Saturday in Beaver Falls, Pa.
