Men's Basketball Advances to AMCC Semifinals with First-Round Win Over Penn State Altoona

Junior Pierre Bowery (Kensington, Md./Albert Einstein)
scored a game-high 24 points to lead Frostburg State to an easy 99-63 win over Penn State Altoona in the first round of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament Wednesday night at Bobcat Arena.
The No. 3 Bobcats, who won for the eighth time in their last 10 games, improve to 15-11 overall and will face No. 2 Penn State Behrend in the semifinals beginning at 6:00 p.m. at tournament host Pitt-Bradford.
Penn State Behrend defeated No. 7 Lake Erie, 65-57, behind sophomore James Curren's 22 points.
Frostburg State had a tough time pulling away from the Cougars (4-22) early on, holding a 14-12 edge at the 13:14 mark.
The Bobcats then began to hit their stride, using a 17-7 run over the next five minutes to build a 31-19 lead.
FSU stretched its advantage to 16 points, 38-22, on a thundering dunk by Bowery, and the junior hit a pair of free throws in the closing seconds of the half to take a 44-31 lead at the break.
The second half belonged to the Bobcats, as they continued to pull away with their up-tempo style.
Senior Sean Brown (Baltimore, Md./North County) nailed a three-pointer one of FSU's 12 three-pointers on the evening with 18:11 to go to give FSU a 54-32 bulge, and after a mild 13-5 Altoona run, the Bobcats put the game away with a 20-4 spurt.
The Bobcats, who had 12 players reach the scoring column, led by as many as 37, 99-62, in the closing seconds.
Brown finished with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists, while junior Rob Jones (Ft. Washington, Md./Friendly) added career-highs of 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Eric Goodson led Penn State Altoona with 14 points and seven rebounds. Stephen Portland added 14 points, and Lamar Downer and Andre Brown each had 10.
