made a basket with 1:28 remaining to give Frostburg State the lead for good, and freshman Brian Owen (Gainesville, Va./Brentsville)
hit four free throws in the last 19 seconds to seal a 72-67 victory over in-state rival Salisbury Wednesday night.
FSU (4-3) trailed by as many as eight points in the second half before making a 10-2 run to tie the game at 57 with just over six minutes remaining. Junior Jason Peterson (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) sparked the rally by scoring seven of the 10 points during the run.
After a basket from Salisbury (4-4) and free throw by junior Dawan El-Amin (Baltimore, Md./Academy Park, Pa.), Owen gave the Bobcats their first lead since early in the first half by hitting a three-pointer to make the score 61-59. The Sea Gulls would battle back to take the lead at 65-64 before Coursey’s jumper.
Owen led the Bobcats with a career-high 24 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including five three-pointers. Peterson added 19 points and six rebounds while junior Kamillo Rosenthal (Munich, Germany/Bishop Sullivan) grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
FSU shot a season-high 75 percent (18-of-24) from the free throw line and 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from three-point range.
Salisbury was led by Rico Stewart's 18 points, with Sean Rozanski and Segun Odumeru adding 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Frostburg State returns to action December 19th when it hosts Christopher Newport at 2:00 p.m.
