HAMBURG, NY — Redshirt-freshman Brian Owen (Gainesville, Va./Brentsville) poured in 16 points to lead Frostburg State to a 70-62 victory over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference newcomer Hilbert Friday evening at Hafner Recreation Center.

The Bobcats (8-4, 3-2 AMCC) took their largest lead of the game at 11 points, 57-46, on a junior Daniel Ryley (Frederick, Md./St. John's Prospect Hall) jumper with 7:39 remaining in the game. Over the next three minutes, Hilbert (3-8, 1-3 AMCC) cut the FSU lead to one, 57-56 on a three-pointer by Glen Ufland. Ryley drained another jumper at 4:17 to push the Bobcat lead to three 59-56.

With 1:42 remaining, the Hawks Sean Kenney hit a basket cutting the Bobcat lead to 62-58. Redshirt-junior Kamillo Rosenthal (Munich, Germany/Bishop Sullivan) made two free throws and Owen made six as Frostburg State converted all eight of their attempts down the stretch to seal the win.

In the first half, Hilbert jumped out to a 10-point lead, 14-4, at the 14:43 mark. The Bobcats mounted a 12-3 run to take the lead by one, 17-16, on a jumper by junior Steve Coursey (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) with 7:58 remaining until halftime.

FSU would take a six-point lead, 27-21, on a senior Jamal Peterson (Mitchellville, Md./Laurel) three-pointer at the 4:18 mark. Ufland pulled the Hawks within one at 27-26 on a three-point basket with just over two minutes left. Coursey hit a jumper and freshman Brian Green (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer as FSU held the halftime lead 32-26.

Rosenthal scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Ryley also collected nine rebounds to lead the Bobcats.
