scored 18 points and senior Daniel Ryley (Frederick, Md./St. John's Prospect Hall)
added 10 points and 13 rebounds to lead Frostburg State to a 79-64 win over visiting Waynesburg College on Tuesday night.
The Bobcats (3-1) jumped out to an early 9-0 lead in the first three minutes when four different players scored. Frostburg State would open up its biggest lead of the game, 27-11, at the 8:25 mark of the first half on back-to-back baskets by senior Marcus McIntyre (Washington, D.C./Wilson).
FSU would end the half with a 42-32 lead.
Waynesburg (1-2) would come out firing in the second half cutting the lead to 3 at ,47-44, with 12:00 minutes remaining on five straight points from senior Ryan Bujnowski. Bujnowski would then hit two free-throws to cut the lead to 52-50 with just over 10 minutes, but that would be as close as the Yellow Jackets would get.
The Bobcats then went on a 17-3 run on back-to-back baskets from Green to open a 69-53 lead at the four-minute mark and cruise to the victory.
Senior Brandon Howell (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) added 11 points with McIntyre scoring nine points and grabbing eight rebounds.
Junior Jeff Nero lead the Yellow Jackets with 19 points and five rebounds.
“We did some very good things defensively,” said head coach Webb Hatch. “We held their leading scorer to seven points.”
The Bobcats return to action next Tuesday as they travel to play Shenandoah at 7:30 pm.
