ALTOONA, Pa. —
Sophomore Keith Hazel (Weirton, W.Va./Weir)
scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Frostburg State men’s basketball team to its third-straight win with a 67-64 defeat of Penn State Altoona Tuesday evening at Adler Gymnasium.
FSU (6-8, 3-4 AMCC) jumped out to a five-point advantage at 15:09 and again at 13:28 before PSA (3-9, 0-6 AMCC) scored seven-straight points to go up by two, 13-11, with 11:05 left in the opening half. The hosts would further their lead to 26-21 with a little over five minutes showing on the clock after a Tyler Franklin three-pointer.
The Bobcats would rebound to take a one-point lead, 27-26, off a redshirt-sophomore Brian Owen (Gainesville, Va./Brentsville) layup with 2:44 left. The lead didn’t last long, however, as Franklin drained another three and the Lions added two more baskets to take a 33-29 lead into halftime.
With 12:09 remaining in the second half, Penn State Altoona took its largest lead of the game, 46-39. Frostburg State then used a 12-5 run, seven points from Hazel, to tie the contest at 51 with 9:36 to play.
The teams battled through three more ties, before Hazel made a jumper that put the Bobcats up for good, 64-62, with 57 seconds remaining.
Senior Marcus McIntyre (Washington, D.C./Wilson) recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds while Owen chipped in 10 points.
Franklin led the Lions with with 15 points followed by Colin Geiger with 14.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday, January 21 as they travel to Pitt-Greensburg for an AMCC game beginning at 4:00 pm.
