01/17/2006

ALTOONA, Pa. — Sophomore Keith Hazel (Weirton, W.Va./Weir) scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Frostburg State men’s basketball team to its third-straight win with a 67-64 defeat of Penn State Altoona Tuesday evening at Adler Gymnasium.

FSU (6-8, 3-4 AMCC) jumped out to a five-point advantage at 15:09 and again at 13:28 before PSA (3-9, 0-6 AMCC) scored seven-straight points to go up by two, 13-11, with 11:05 left in the opening half. The hosts would further their lead to 26-21 with a little over five minutes showing on the clock after a Tyler Franklin three-pointer.

The Bobcats would rebound to take a one-point lead, 27-26, off a redshirt-sophomore Brian Owen (Gainesville, Va./Brentsville) layup with 2:44 left. The lead didn’t last long, however, as Franklin drained another three and the Lions added two more baskets to take a 33-29 lead into halftime.
