— Pitt-Bradford made 12 straight free throws under two minutes to go to defeat the Frostburg State men’s basketball team, 73-60, Friday evening at Bobcat Arena.
Frostburg State fell to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference while Pitt-Bradford improves to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in league competition.
The Bobcats, who shot just 29.9 percent, took their second and last lead of the game, 3-2, on a free throw by senior Dawan El-Amin (Baltimore, Md./Academy Park) with 17:45 left in the opening half. Ryan Race scored nine points during a UPB 13-2 run to open a 15-5 lead at 14:19.
FSU narrowed the gap to 19-16 with 10:06 left, on a senior Victor Arana (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) jumper. The Panthers took their largest lead of the half at 27-16 with 5:48 remaining and would go on to lead at halftime, 29-23.
Pitt-Bradford again stretched their lead to 11 points, 43-32, seven and half minutes into the second stanza. The Bobcats would slowly chisel away at the deficit reaching to within a point, 54-53, with just 4:48 remaining in the game on a senior Brandon Howell (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) layup.
UPB would then put the game away, taking a six-point lead with two minutes left and using excellent free throw shooting down the stretch to seal the win.
Senior Marcus McIntyre (Washington, D.C./Woodrow Wilson) was the lone Bobcat in double digits scoring 13 points and pulling down 14 rebounds.
The Panthers had four players in double digits led by Race with 19 followed by Mark Austin with 15, Rob Copley with 14 and Dan Thomas with 11.
Frostburg State returns to action tomorrow when they host Penn State Behrend at 6:00 pm.
