— Demetris Pringle drained a shot with five seconds left in the game to give La Roche an 82-80 victory over Frostburg State in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Arena.
The Redhawks improve to 4-6 overall and 3-1 in the AMCC while the Bobcats fall to 7-4 overall and 2-2 in the AMCC.
A Roche dominated the beginning of the second half, holding double-digit leads throughout the first ten minutes. The Redhawks held their last double-digit lead, 61-51, when Pringle converted a free throw with 8:23 remaining. Junior Jason Peterson (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen (Harford CC)) then cut the deficit to eight with a layup at 7:59. The Bobcats would slowly erase the Redhawk lead bringing it to one, 77-76, with 54 seconds remaining when Peterson hit a jumper.
Nine seconds later Brent Dover converted a three-point play to push the lead to four. Redshirt-junior Kamillo Rosenthal (Munich, Germany/Bishop Sullivan) then made a layup in traffic to pull the Bobcats to within two. With 16 seconds remaining, Peterson made a layup to which tied the score at 80 setting up Pringle’s late heroics.
In the first half, La Roche held a 12-6 advantage with 14:40 left. FSU scored seven straight points taking a one-point lead on a Peterson jumper at 11:14. The Redhawks pushed the lead back to five at 9:46 on a Stacy Grady three-pointer.
The Bobcats would take their last lead of the game, 31-29, on a layup by freshman Brian Green (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley). Grady then capped a 10-2 Redhawk run with a last-second three-pointer to give his team the lead at the break 39-33.
Peterson was the only Bobcat in double figures scoring 32 points on 13-of-16 shooting while grabbing six rebounds and adding four steals. Redshirt-freshman Brian Owen (Gainesville, Va./Brentsville) scored nine points followed by junior Victor Arana (Aberdeen, Md./Ellison, Texas (Harford CC)) with eight. Arana also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
Devin Taylor scored a game-high 36 points on 13-of-15 shooting while grabbing seven rebounds for the Redhawks. Dover and Pringle scored 17 and 16 points, respectively. Frank Davis had nine rebounds.
FSU returns to action January 14 when it travels to conference newcomer Hilbert at 8 pm.
