CRESSON, Pa. —
Red-shirt junior Kamillo Rosenthal (Munich, Germany/Bishop Sullivan)
scored a career-high 31 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while junior Jason Peterson (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen (Harford CC))
had 27 points and 11 boards to lead Frostburg State to a 128-114 win over Mount Aloysius in a high-scoring Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game Tuesday night.
The Bobcats improved to 11-5 overall and 6-3 in the AMCC with their eighth win in their last 10 games. The Mounties fell to 5-10 overall and 3-6 in the league.
FSU’s 128 points were the second-most in school history, just two shy of the 130 points scored against St. Mary’s February 26, 1983.
The Bobcats shot 62.7 percent (42-of-75) from the floor, the third-highest mark in school history, and their 47 made shots tied for third all-time.
Rosenthal sank 8-of-12 shots from the floor, including 6-of-9 from three-point range, and went 9-of-11 from the free throw line. His six three’s were just one shy of the FSU single-game record held by four players.
Neither team could create any breathing room in the first 10 minutes of an opening half that featured six ties.
The Bobcats finally broke free of a 37-37 deadlock at the 7:26 mark behind an 18-4 run over the next four minutes. Rosenthal began the outburst with a three-pointer, and Peterson scored six points, including four on a pair of dunks.
The 14-point lead quickly evaporated, however, as Mt. Aloysius scored the final 11 points of the half to pull to within 57-56 at the break.
The teams stayed close throughout the first 10 minutes of the second half, with FSU clinging to an 87-86 edge at the 11:03 mark before heating up again.
Peterson made a layup to give the Bobcats a 101-91 lead, and, following a Mountie three-pointer, FSU ripped off 17 straight points to pull away for good.
Junior Victor Arana (Aberdeen, Md./Ellison, Texas (Harford CC)) scored 18 points on the night, while junior Daniel Ryley (Frederick, Md./St. John’s Prospect Hall) added 12.
Deron Knox scored 28 points to lead five Mounties players in double-digits. Justin Ohler (22), Aaron Melius (15), Roman Mims (11) and Jeff Slatcoff (11) also reached double figures.
Frostburg State returns to action this weekend in a pair of key home AMCC contests. The Bobcats host Penn State Behrend Friday at 8 pm before welcoming Pitt-Bradford to Bobcat Arena Saturday at 6 pm.
