— The Frostburg State University men’s basketball team has been picked to finish fifth in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference according to a vote taken by the league’s head coaches.
The Bobcats return two starters and seven letterwinners from last year’s sqaud that posted a 14-12 overall record and finished sixth in the AMCC with a 9-9 mark. FSU advanced to the first round of the AMCC tournament where it fell to Lake Erie 85-67.
Lake Erie, which boasts two returning all-conference players, is the favorite to win the men’s title. The Storm (15-12, 12-6 AMCC) finished third in last year’s regular-season standings and lost to eventual champion Penn State Behrend 56-55, in the AMCC Tournament semifinals.
Penn State Behrend, last year’s champion, was picked to finish second. The Lions (19-8, 14-4) won the AMCC tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament last year.
Lake Erie junior center Jacjen Harris is the Preseason Player of the Year. The first-team All-AMCC selection last season, averaged 14.1 points, 6.4 rebounds and shot 54.1% from the field, good for seventh best in the country in Division III.
Frostburg State opens its season against McDaniel on November 18th in the Pride of Maryland tournament, which features eight Division III schools from the state of Maryland.
